What’s The Difference? CBD Vs. Hemp Vs. THC

CBD and hemp are often talked about together online, and they are also often confused. When you throw THC in the mix, things only get more confusing. In this post we examine the details behind CBD and Hemp products, as well as the definition of the acronyms, to ensure users understand what they are using and also that they are receiving the intended effects from whichever product they choose. By providing all the facts, we aim to help our customers use CBD comfortably and confidently!

What Is CBD?

CBD is an abbreviation for “cannabidiol.” And cannabidiol is a naturally-occuring active ingredient found in the cannabis plant. There are several active ingredients in the cannabis plant including CBD and THC. CBD does not have any psychoactive properties.

So What Is THC?

As mentioned above, THC is another active ingredient in the cannabis plant. THC stands for tetrahydrocannabinol, and is actually the main active ingredient in the plant. THC is known for its psychoactive properties, and its ability to get you “high.”

What About Hemp?

Hemp oil also comes from the cannabis, or hemp, plant hence its name. It’s extracted from the plant’s seeds, but there are no cannabinoids in hemp oil. So hemp oil does not contain either CBD or THC.

How Are The Three Used?

CBD: CBD is increasingly being used for health and wellness, and as an alternative to pharmaceuticals or other forms of medications. People use CBD to treat a variety of things from epilepsy, to anxiety and stress, to sleep issues and disorders, to chronic pain and inflammation, to skin issues such as acne, and much more.

THC: THC is used as a recreational drug, most commonly known as marijuana. It is also gaining favor in the medical field as a treatment for some medical ailments.

Hemp (Oil): Hemp oil is used in beauty products and food products most commonly. It contains healthy fats and has anti-inflammatory properties, which is part of the reason it’s so popular.
